It was a warm autumn day, and we were in the mood for a hike, but we didn’t want to go too far from Cluj, so we chose to stroll through the forests on the outskirts of the city. The Făget forest is welded to Cluj, it can be easily reached from Mănăştur and Zorilor districts, at the end of the bus lines.
We started our tour at the end of the Primăverii Street, next to the tram depot, walked a little along the drumul Sfântul Ioan (St. John’s Road), and then followed the path through the forest. There are many paths through Făget, most of them easily accessible, we even met some elderly hikers while walking in the forest. They’re also marked on Google Maps, so it’s hard to get lost.
Although close to the city, these trails are very pleasant, being a good escape from urban agitation in the middle of the trees. The silence of nature makes you forget about all the stress and come back to things that are really important. We walked for a few hours in the forest and then exited through Clăbucet Street, behind the blocks.
We recommend this escapade to everyone who lives in Cluj or is just visiting. It’s easy to do, it doesn’t take too much time and it recharges you with energy. It’s like going to a resort, just that you get here very quickly and you can go back to “civilization” just as quickly.
You can also jog, do nordic walking, have a picnic or simply explore the forest on all its trails. There are also areas with steeper slopes for those who want a more intense pace. Take some water with you, a pair of good shoes and join us in the forests of Cluj!
