Hotel President Spa in Băile Felix – Our Review

Baile Felix resort is one of the most popular holiday and treatment destinations in Romania, the thermal waters here attract tourists all year round, regardless of season or weather.

We have spent some nice mini-holidays here (even our first trip together, a few years ago!) and we will certainly return. Over the years, we stayed at several guesthouses and hotels in the resort, and today we’ll tell you about the President Spa Hotel, one of the coolest places where you can stay in Baile Felix.

Quick facts about the hotel:

Star rating: ****

Number of rooms: 45 rooms and 5 suites (apartments)

Restaurant: Buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner

Spa Zone: Jacuzzi, saunas, frigidarium, relaxation room, massages and beauty treatments

Facilities: Indoor and outdoor thermal pools, pool bar, conference room, free parking, safety deposit box in the room

Although we usually travel alone, just the two of us, this time we were a mini-group of 4 people, so we can show you two rooms in this hotel.

Let’s go quickly over the first room, where we made a short visit just to take some pictures and see if it differs a lot from our room.

The room of our travel partners was on the second floor of the hotel, and from the balcony which opened to the back of the building, it had the same view as ours, but… closer to the ground.

Room facilities were almost identical, the differences being mostly chromatic.

The bathroom was about the same size and arrangement as ours, it was clean, comfortable, supplied with all the necessary.

Let’s get to our room now, located on the fourth floor, with a large window and balcony overlooking the back of the hotel.

When we checked-in, we received at the reception an electricity card and two bracelets (or “watches”) for access to our room, in the Spa Zone and to the Aqua Park, which is very comfortable, as you never have to worry about the key, always having it on you, even while relaxing in the pool or at the Spa, as it is waterproof.

As we walked into the room, we found on the table this Hotel & City Guide, which contained very useful information about the hotel, rooms, parking, restaurant (including meal hours), the conference centre, health centre, wellness and spa services available for guests, recreation options, the aqua park and the resort.

When unpacking our luggage, we were glad to find plenty of space in the two closets in the room, both on shelves and on hangers, but also in the nightstands and in the four drawers of the desk. On the other hand, if you are the kind who puts things handy, on “the armchair”, it is there too, to suit all your needs. 🙂

The desk was a perfect size to fit two people working on laptops at the same time (we know that most people do not work on vacation, but we work pretty much when we travel and it’s important for us to have a comfortable workspace). There were also an electric kettle, two cups and two wine glasses on the desk.

The bed was absolutely awesome, with very nice lighting, including a small reading lamp, a large and comfortable mattress, one big and one small pillow for each of us and, most importantly, two quilts – it is very difficult for us to understand why in many places we find a single duvet, often quite small, in a two-person room. The bedclothes were super white and very pleasant to the touch.

The bathroom looked very good, being spacious, warm and nicely illuminated. It was equipped with everything we needed: towels, bathrobes (size L), toilet paper and hygiene products (soap, shampoo and shower gel), a soft terry to get out of the shower, towel dryer, hair dryer and water glasses.

The next morning, the chambermaid came to clean the room and bring new towels and bathrobes, but we politely refused, which we kindly recommend to you, too: sometimes when people are on holiday, they tend to want to be pampered and end up wasting valuable resources: water, electricity, detergents, cleaning products and, most importantly, the work of the people who provide them with this “pampering.” Let’s be serious, how many of us change towels every day at home? Of course, these things are justified for longer stays, but it is not really necessary to change the towels and bathrobes daily.

Our balcony, as we said above, was facing the back of the hotel, which we really enjoyed because we could admire the greenery of May in all its splendour.

There was a table and a chair on the balcony (we were expecting to have two chairs, however, for a two-person room) and an ashtray (for smokers). Smoking is not allowed in the rooms, only on balconies, terraces and in specially designated spaces.

The Restaurant

Our accommodation at the hotel included the full board option, so we had three meals a day and we can tell you that all of them were varied and delicious. All meals are served buffet style, so any guest can find several dishes they enjoy and can taste many others.

Breakfast was served from 7:30 to 10 am and was our favourite meal of the day. A lot of goodies, from classical sausages, cheeses and omelettes, cereal, milk and yoghurt to salads of all kinds, fish, roulades, pastries, tea, coffee, juices and more, helped us to beautifully start our days.

Lunch starts at 1 pm and can be served until 3:30. The main meal of the day offers soups, many kinds of main dishes, all very well-cooked, from traditional and international cuisine, salads, cakes, hot and refreshing drinks.

Dinner hours are between 7 and 10 pm. For this meal too, the food assortment is very rich and meets the tastes of any hungry guest.

Although the hotel was full, the meals were so well organized that the restaurant was never crowded during our stay – we always found room to sit comfortably at the table.

We liked the fact that we never felt like missing anything, everything was there at our disposal – spices, plates, cutlery and utensils were always enough, even tap beer was available for free at the restaurant. When the weather allows, the meals can also be served on the outdoor terrace of the restaurant.

The Pools

The hotel has two thermal pools, very warm and comfortable, one indoors and one outdoors, quite large and equipped with hydro massage facilities.

The water temperature is very pleasant, there are plenty of sunbeds both inside and outside. In the outdoor pool there is a pool bar directly accessible from the water, with beer, refreshing beverages and everything one might need for complete relaxation and fun.

In the pools area there are lockers, changing cabins, toilets and showers, all very modern and clean.

Only people staying at the hotel have access to these pools, so they are not crowded and the ambience is very relaxing and quiet.

The Spa Zone

The Spa Area of the hotel is on the 1st floor, right above the thermal pools. We learned that these are the most modern spa facilities in the entire resort.

We found here a Jacuzzi, three saunas – wet, dry and saline, a frigidarium and a relaxation room with plants and a fine view.

Here, guests can also enjoy a range of body and beauty treatments: massages, facial treatments, mud baths, cosmetics, manicure, pedicure and more.

The Aqua Park

President Aqua Park is one of the most popular attractions in Baile Felix and offers opportunities for fun and relaxation all year round.

Anyone has access here, whether they are staying at the hotel or not, and there is room for everyone in the 14 indoor and 6 outdoor pools, saunas, numerous slides, bars, restaurants, food & snack areas and many more amenities.

What we liked most is that the hotel is connected to the Aqua Park via a covered walkway, which allowed us to get there in our bathrobes directly from the room, after going down on a panoramic elevator.

Another good thing is that the check-out is at 12 at noon, which we found at few hotels, usually the room must be left earlier on the day of departure but here you still have time to take a swim in the pool before you leave.

In addition to the hotel we stayed in, the President Hotels & Resort Complex comprises two more hotels with similar facilities, restaurants and event halls.

Conclusion

Did we like the President Spa Hotel in Baile Felix? Yes, definitely. The very good conditions, the modern facilities, the cleanliness, the orientation towards the customer, the comfort, the delicious food – all will surely make us come back.

What could be better? Well… one more chair on the balcony, as we said above and… longer curtains! Maybe it’s just us that are weird this way (especially one of us 🙂 ), but we say that the perfect sleep is in total darkness, and some curtains that touch the floor would make the room even more awesome than it was. 🙂
